30 Things to See

Sometimes trimming down is a good idea. (No, this is not about New Year’s resolutions.) Here, we are talking about a document that was originally titled “50 Things to See and Show in The Family History Guide”. A while back it was reduced from 50 to 40 things, and this past week it was reduced even further to “30 Things to See and Show in The Family History Guide“.

So why the push to trim down?

There is so much content in The Family History Guide that we thought it good for presenters to focus on the more essential items, especially for those who are new to the website. In my recent blog post “100 Questions and Answers,” I described how that document was originally intended for website users but has found a new following with trainers and consultants. Similarly, the “30 Things to See and Show” document has evolved into a very useful tool for presenters of The Family History Guide.

Here’s a sample of the “30 Things document (links are live in the online version). In addition to the link shown above, you can find it in the Trainers > Resources > More Training Documents on the website.

Full Presentations

Presenters can use the document as a checklist for the items to cover during a presentation of The Family History Guide website. The document is two pages long, with the higher priority items Items listed on the first page. Items may be included or skipped, as time permits; there is more than enough information in the document to cover a one-hour presentation.

Quick Demos

The “30 Things” document can be very helpful if you are doing quick demos of The Family History Guide for others, such as at a family history fair or convention. For example, you can print the document and study it; then when a guest stops by the booth and wants to know what The Family History Guide is about, you’ll know what to cover and how to get there.

Speaking of demos, if you will be at RootsTech 2019 please stop by our booth (near the front left side of the Exhibit Hall) and say hello. Our booth workers will be using the “30 Things” document as a basis for brief demos of the website. Look for more info on our booth and presentations at RootsTech in upcoming blogs. Enjoy!
