Welcome to Our Newest Research Intern, Rachel Carter

We are pleased to announce that Rachel Carter, a senior at Brigham Young University majoring in Family History and Genealogy, has joined the staff of The Family History Guide Association as a Research Intern. During her internship she will report to Bob Taylor, Director of Development. Here’s some background information on Rachel to help you get to know her better:

“My interest in family history began when I served in my ward as a family history youth consultant. As part of my duties, I went to my local family history center on a weekly basis and helped patrons with their family history. I also gave presentations and taught classes on basic family history skills.

For the past two years, I have been employed with Brigham Young University Center for Family History and Genealogy. During my employment I have worked, as a research assistant on the Nauvoo Community Project, the University of Virginia Polygamy Project and as a front desk assistant. Through my experiences on these projects, I have completed research for over one hundred individuals using census records, vital records, newspapers, and compiled sources.

My research emphasis as a Family History-Genealogy major is the United States. Through my course work, I have completed research in the American North, Midwest, and South. I have also had some experience with research in other areas such as England and Denmark. I have become very familiar with conducting research using databases such as Ancestry, Family Search, and Mormon Pioneer Overland Travel. I have also become competent in using genealogical software such as Roots Magic and Research Ties. Recently, I was accepted to receive a grant to attend the August 2018 Federation of Genealogical Societies in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

After graduation, I plan to become a professional genealogist. I hope to work for a professional company to gain experience in the field and improve my research skills.”

In the short time (one week so far) that Rachel has been working with us, she has already compiled over 200 new QUIKLinks to record collections from FamilySearch and Ancestry.  Welcome aboard, Rachel!

  1. Welcome Rachel! Thank you for accepting this internship and for already doing so much to help The Family History Guide Association. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to work with you!

  2. All of our interns have been WONDERFUL! Rachel will be as well, I’m sure. Not only do they help us technically, but they add “fresh” eyes to what and how we do things. Also, we get to see family history/genealogy from the perspective of the younger generation that will carry the torch going forward. Welcome, Rachel!!

  3. Rachel, it is great that you have joined our team. All those QuikLinks in a week! That is amazing and will be so helpful! I look forward to getting to know you. I have been out temporarily on a medical leave but am slowing coming back starting today!
