The Brigham Young University Library has handy subject guides on just about every topic you can think of—including family history, of course. One of the great things about these guides is that they provide essential resources and overviews, in an easy-to-use format.

Inside the family history subject guide are tabs for the following topics:

• Beginning Research: Tips for starting your family history journey, sample videos for beginners, print resources, and online resources. Note that The Family History Guide is listed as a primary online training resource.
• Advanced Research: Links to special collections on genealogy in the BYU Archives and Library, as well as several research databases and genealogy journals
• Genealogy Databases: Links to alphabetical and resource lists from the library, as well as key family history record websites, digital libraries, and additional databases
• Newspapers: Sources for core news, U.S. and Canadian digital newspapers, international news, business news, and Utah newspapers
• Oral Histories: Links to world oral histories on FamilySearch, as well as resources for the U.S., Western U.S., and Asia
• Discovery and Activities: Links to family history activities from FamilySearch, The BYU Family History Technology Lab, American Ancestors, and The Family History Guide, as well as sample discovery videos.
• Preserving Memories: Tips from the BYU Conservators site, as well as links to a number of helpful videos on the BYU Family History YouTube Channel
• Maps for Genealogy: Guides and indexes for maps, selected cartographic journals, and maps and gazetteers for genealogists
• BYU Family History Library: A general overview of resources available at the Harold B. Lee Library at BYU
