A Healthy Addition of Exercises

At the end of most Choices in The Family History Guide are Exercises links. These Exercises help you achieve Good or Proficient status for skills. They also provide criteria to help you rate yourself in the Word Tracker (status) or the Online Tracker (slider bars). These Exercises have been available for Projects in FamilySearch, Ancestry, MyHeritage, and Findmypast.

Recently we added exercises for the United States page, all 50 U.S. state pages, and most of the Country pages on the website. These can be used in conjunction with the corresponding Tracker entries that were added a while back.

Pattern

The Exercises mentioned above follow a basic pattern that fits research for most geographic areas. You gather key learnings for a Choice and then apply them towards doing research for one or more of your ancestors. Here is an example:

* Good: Using the articles and videos in this Choice, write down key learnings for census records. Then use the learnings for searches for a U.S. ancestor.

* Proficient: Same as above, for two or more ancestors.

Coming Soon

In the near future we plan on adding exercises and Tracker entries for England counties, Canadian provinces, and Australian states. Stay tuned!
