Checking Out the 100+ Top Blogs

Recently I’ve been going through a list of the “Top 100 Blog Sites” in the world, on https://blog.feedspot.com/genealogy_blogs, as well as some not on the list. The idea is to find links to additional articles that would be beneficial for The Family History Guide. It has been well worth the effort, as hundreds of new links have been added from these sites to our site, in the main topics and in the Vault.

The top entries on the list are, not surprisingly, from the larger companies such as Ancestry, FamilySearch, MyHeritage, etc. There are a few that are now defunct, and a few that make you wonder how they got on the list. Also, there are a few with good-quality articles, but their visual design is so cluttered that it’s almost painful to go through the content.

But all of that aside, I found some terrific blog sites, with expert, useful content and pleasing presentation. I’ll be checking these regularly for links to add to The Family History Guide, as well as the “big sites.” Here’s a list of some of my favorite blog authors and sites from the 100, with links to their sites (not in any special order):

Looking Ahead: Sample Outlines

Finding some great nuggets of information from these blog sites not only benefits The Family History Guide website—it also provides great content for the Sample Outlines that are currently under development. These outlines will be a key part of our training outreach program in the future.
