Cleaning Up with Tree Sweeper

In a previous post, we said farewell to Find-A-Record, a popular program for updating and maintaining your data in FamilySearch Family Tree. It was featured in Project 1: Family Tree in The Family History Guide. Now there is a worthy successor to Find-A-Record: it’s Tree Sweeper, from the BYU Family History Technology Lab.

In a nutshell, Tree Sweeper examines your Family Tree up to 7 generations at a time, looking for possible errors, looking for possible or definite errors, or research opportunities such as possible missing children, etc. You can also sweep Family Tree starting with another person besides yourself.

When the sweep finishes, a Results screen is displayed to show the errors or other information that was requested in the Options.

We’ve added a new Choice in The Family History Guide with instructions on using Tree Sweeper. You’ll find in Project 1: Family Tree, Goal 6, Choice H. There is also an in-depth tutorial on the Tree Sweeper site here.

Check out Tree Sweeper in The Family History Guide and on the BYU Family History Technology Lab. It’s a great way to keep your Family Tree trimmed and in the best of health.
