Finding U.S. County Resources in The Family History Guide

In The Family History Guide, you can learn about research for the United States; then you can explore research state by state, by using the links just below the Statue of Liberty photo. Once you are on a state page, you can see links for each county in the state, at the bottom of the page.

Below is an example of the counties listed in the California page. Note the legend at the top: when you click the name of the county, it opens the FamilySearch page. Clicking other letters opens pages for Ancestry, Linkpendium, GenealogyInc, USGenWeb, or a related Facebook page, respectively.

Here are some partial screen shots of the FamilySearch and Linkpendium pages for Ventura County. Notice that these pictures show just the “tip of the iceberg” for the county information that is available.

Genealogical Societies are a great resource for additional county resources and records, many of which are found only on those sites. Typically there is a Resources link on the society website page that you can explore. Depending on the websites, some information is restricted to society members, but much of the information is freely available.

In the county sections of The Family History Guide, we will be adding “S” links in the near future. These links will take you to web pages for county or regional genealogical societies, so you can explore these amazing resources.
