New BYU FHL Video: Research with The Family History Guide

On Thursday, July 7 we recorded a new webinar video for the BYU Family History Library, titled Research with The Family History Guide. It covers the following important areas of research:

  • Research Intro—How to use the collector page for research in The Family History Guide
  • Sources—Introducing genealogy sources and their importance
  • Research Basics—Getting organized, basic research concepts, and strategies to use
  • Research Tools—A summary of useful research tools, including those available from FamilySearch, Ancestry, MyHeritage, and Findmypast as well as knowledgebases
  • Country pages—How to find and use resources in The Family History Guide for doing research in most countries throughout the world
  • United States Research—Topics including basic and vital record concepts, census, immigration, military, church, land, newspaper, and other records
  • States and Counties—Resources for all 50 states and their counties, as well as Washington, D.C. and Puerto RIco
  • England Counties, Canada Provinces—Resources for each county in England and each province in Canada
  • DNA Research—Basic DNA concepts, partner resources, and research tools
  • Getting Help—Finding societies, communities, and social media groups to assist with research efforts and questions

Additional research resources in The Family History Guide that were not covered in the video include descendancy research, surname eBooks, and apps for FamilySearch and Ancestry.
