Rootstech 2019 ~ Lots of Learners, Teachers & Consultants Sought Help

As various stats were collected after RootsTech 2019, it became apparent that The Family History Guide had some very successful experiences there.  We had three wonderful presentations. Two were given by Bob Taylor, CEO of the Family History Guide, entitled “The “Family History Guide: Accelerating Your Learning and Research”.  The two classes attracted 1350 attendees.  It is estimated that a significant number of them were Family History Consultants.  Rooststech was such an enjoyable event for those you came!

For the duration of the four-day conference, many trainers and consultants visited our booth, for live demos on individual computers, for one-on-one experiences, with The Family History Guide. Over 1600 live demos were presented, given by the management team and our wonderful volunteer booth workers.  Hundreds also attended our mini-classes in the booth, highlighting the various features of The Family History Guide. One of the things we heard repeatedly was, “Why haven’t I heard about this before?”

Word traveled fast among the conference-goers who are Family History Consultants and they flocked to our booth non-stop.  People were astonished and eager to learn more. Here are some of the comments from Bob Taylor’s blog post last week, if you missed them. My favorite comment among them was this:  “I have plenty of encouragement as to why I should do family history. What I need is a tool to help me be successful in my consultant calling, and that’s what The Family History Guide has been for me.”

This lack of a good, organized and understandable training system or tool, has been the struggle that consultants have faced for years. The Family History Guide simplifies this work so much!  Step by step you can overcome the obstacles that arise. Here are some things that are helpful to know and do.

  •  Project 1 in The Family History Guide will teach you sequential steps to master FamilyTree!
  • The Projects in The FH Guide are all taught using the same learning pattern: Goals, Choices, Steps, Resources, Exercises.
  • Your action is required to “own” what you learn. Click on links, try things, discover things. Hearing or reading alone is not enough. “Put your hands on it.”
  • Everything can be found from the Homepage links, the Topics, and the Site Map. There is also a Google search bar on the upper portion of the Homepage.
  • Eventually, you should consider becoming a Certifed Trainer and Mentor to help others. It will greatly improve your confidence as a trainer and consultant. It will become easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable!
  • Be patient with yourself, Rome wasn’t built in a day.  Neither is a solid basic understanding of how to help yourself and others when it comes to family history.  You can find all kinds of wonderful resources online and in libraries and other record repositories all over the world.  Just let The Family History Guide website actually guide you!  You’ll be so glad when you do!
