The Family History Guide – Bringing Families Together

“We all carry inside us, people who came before us.”  Liam Callahan

Doing family history can bring us closer to our ancestors who have passed on. A desire for these connections seems to be innate in people everywhere. In this new video produced for The Family History Guide, Joseph Ssempalla describes this desire beautifully as he talks about his family heritage in Uganda and his hope to pass it on to his children. His wife, Vilate, also hopes to pass on rn to love of family history to their children. This video also features a tender story by Jana Christensen who speaks of feeling her great-grandmother’s care and concern for her even though her “Gram” is no longer alive. Both of these stories bring to light the need to pass on the legacy of our ancestors and find ways to help generations to not only remember, but to have the influence of the past make a difference in the present.

Often, it is a challenge to know how to preserve our memories, how to write and record stories, how to involve our families in doing research and what activities will help our loved ones to be motivated to do family history activities. Whether you’re brand new to family history or a seasoned researcher—or somewhere in between—The Family History Guide is a resource that can help you with any part of family history.

Working on family history together as a family can not only bring us closer to our ancestors, it can bring us closer to living members of all generations! Check out the Activities section of the Family history Guide, and search our blog for any activities you may find interesting, fun, and helpful.Thank you to Krissi Cook Films for bringing us this beautiful video highlighting how The Family History Guide can help us feel connected and closer to those we “carry inside us,” and to help us feel closer to our living loved ones as we do.
