Tracing Your Pioneer Ancestors

This Wednesday, July 24, marks the 177th anniversary of the Mormon pioneers’ arrival into the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. Additional companies of immigrants came to Utah later, as well as many who traveled on to Oregon, California, and other states in the western U.S.

One of my ancestors, Norman Taylor, was in the initial group of pioneers. At age 19 he was the youngest wagon driver in the company. You can read about him on FamilySearch here: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/memories/KWJ6-9N8

The Family History Guide has some great resources to help you trace pioneer and migrant ancestors. Check out Goal D4 in the United States page for general westward migration information, and Goal F1 for finding information about Latter-day Saint records. Enjoy!
