Goal 3: Edit and View Your Home page.


In your Home page you can set up Welcome text, post family news, invite people to your site, and more.


Choices


A Add a description for the site.


  1. On your Home page, in the lower left, click Add.
  2. Write a description for your family site. This will give relatives and visitors an overview of your site.
  3. Click Save.

B View information items on your Home page.


  1. On the left side you can see a summary of statistics about the site.
  2. To add a photo for the top section,
    a) Click the photo icon (upper right);
    b) Select Upload photo to add a nmew photo, or Use site photo to use a photo already on the site; and
    c) Follow the prompts to complete the photo addition.
  3. In the center section you can review recent Discoveries and see recent activities on the site. These may include viewing photo albums, restoring photos, welcoming new members to the site, etc.
  4. On the right side you can do basic or advanced searches in the MyHeritage record collections.

C Invite family members to the site.


  1. In the Home menu click Invite family.
  2. Enter the email address for each member to be invited.
  3. Click Invite for each email address.
  4. If there are many people already in your tree, including deceased ancestors, it may be easier to invite them manually. At the bottom of the page, click the "Invite other people manually" link, fill in their contact information, and then click Invite.

D Add events and view them on the site or in your calendar.


  1. In the Home menu, select Family events.
  2. To post an event to your calendar, click Post an event (right side of the Home page). Then add the title, date, time, place, and description for the event and click Post it. A site member window appears.
  3. Select any site members who should receive the message, and add other recipients. (If you don't want to notify others, click "Don't notify site members" at the bottom left.)
  4. If needed, update the subject and message text, and then click Send.
  5. To search for an event in the list, type one or more words in the "Find an event" box and click the blue Search arrow. You can also use the Advanced Search link to search for all fields, title, description, submitter, or comments.
  6. Missing family events (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) are listed at the right of the Family events screen. To add an event,
    a) Click Add;
    b) Select the month and day of the event;
    c) Edit the year; and
    d) Click the Add button.
  7. To view more details for an event, click the event link. You can then add the event to Outlook, or to your calendar, or delete the event. For calendar settings, see Choice A in Goal 2 of this Project.
    Note : Events are automatically removed from the calendar after they occur.

E View statistics for your site and perform other tasks.


  1. Choose Family statistics from the Home menu. The following categories and descriptions are included, with pie charts, lists, etc. (You may need to wait while statistics are prepared; you can refresh the browser to check for results.)
    • Overview—Pie charts: gender, living vs. deceased, relationship status. Lists: Common last names, common first names (male or female).
    • Relationships—Gives overviews and diagrams of how people in your tree are related to you.
    • Places—Maps of places of birth, death, and residence, with percentages by country.
    • Ages—Charts: Age distribution, average life expectancy. Lists: oldest living people, youngest people, longest lives, shortest lives.
    • Births—Charts: birth month percentages, zodiac sign percentages, birth decade percentages.
    • Marriages—Charts: number of marriages, age at marriage. Lists: married the most, when married, oldest when married, youngest when married, longest marriage, shortest marriage, husband much older, wife much older.
    • Children—Charts: number of children per family, age (decade) when having children. Lists: families with most children, people with most children, oldest when having a child, youngest when having a child, age differences (oldest and youngest children), largest age differences, smallest age differences.
    • Divorces—Lists: number of divorces, divorced most times, longest marriage ending in divorce, age when divorced, oldest when divorced, youngest when divorced.
  2. To see people who are members of the site, select Site members from the Home menu. You can sort the list (left side) or scroll through it (lower left). The following actions are available:
    • Member type—In the upper left, click the drop-down menu to select All members, Never visited, Visited, Site managers, or Requested membership.
    • Find a person—To find a person in the list, click the search box (upper left), type a name, and click the blue arrow. To see advanced options for searching, click "Show advanced search."
    • Member type—In the upper left, click the drop-down menu to select All members, Never visited, Visited, Site managers, or Requested membership.
    • Sorting—Below "All members" you can sort by first name, last name, address, or last visit.
  3. To invite family members to the site, click Invite family (see instructions above for inviting members).
