Goal 3: Member Connect and Collaboration



Goal 3: Use Member Connect and other collaboration tools.


The Member Connect feature helps you stay in touch with other Ancestry members who are researching common ancestors.


Choices


AExplore Member Connect.


  1. In the Profile for an ancestor, click Tools and select Member connect.
  2. Follow the steps in this article to see a list of people who likely have the same person in their trees, to save a tree on the list, to compare your tree to theirs, or to remove a connection.

BUse other collaboration tools.


  1. To search other Ancestry member trees that are public,
    a) In the Collaborate panel, click the "Public Member Trees" link;
    b) Fill in the search fields (see Project 4, Goals 4-6 for search tips);
    and c) Click Search. Note : Data in other trees is not guaranteed to be complete or accurate, but it may be helpful in your research.
  2. To use the Member Search feature to find an Ancestry Community member by name,
    a) In the Collaborate panel, click the "Member Directory" link;
    b) Click the "Member Search" link;
    c) Type a name or user name in the box and select it;
    d) Click Message and fill in the fields; and
    e) Click Send.
  3. To use Member Search to find an Ancestry Community member by research interest,
    a) In the Member Search page, click the "Find a specific member" link and select "Find members by research interest";
    b) Type a surname of interest;
    c) Type a location and select it from the list;
    d) Type a year of interest; and
    e) Click the magnifying glass icon. You can then click a username to contact that person, or click the person's family tree link if available.
