Goal 4: Audio


Goal 1: Listen to and add audio in Memories.


This Goal helps you do interviews and add audio files for ancestors in Family Tree.


Choices


A Add new audio files to Memories.


Summary

    The Audio Files feature in Memories enables you to do recorded interviews from your device, quickly and easily, with a number of pre-selected topics. You can invite someone to interview, or you can address the topics yourself.

  1. In the Audio screen, tap the plus icon (lower right).
  2. Tap Record Audio. If a prompt appears for allowing Memories to record audio, tap Allow.
  3. In the Choose a Topic list, tap a question that the speaker will answer in the recording. If you don't see the question you want, tap Begin Recording to use your own topic.
  4. In the Recording screen,
    a) Tap the microphone icon (Start);
    b) Ask the question on the screen (or supply your own if you want) to the person you are interviewing; and
    c) Have the person you are interviewing answer the question as the recording proceeds. You can add your comments as you go.






  5. To finish the recording, tap Done.
  6. If you want to change the title for the recording, edit it on the screen.
  7. Tap Save. The audio file now appears in your Memories.

B Listen to audio files in the Memories Gallery.


Summary

  1. To listen to an audio file in the Gallery, tap the Audio icon (second icon in the top bar).
  2. Select an audio file in the Gallery and then tap the Play button. You can tap it again to pause the audio, or
  3. To add or edit a title for the audio file,
    a) In the three-dot menu, tap Add a Title (or Edit Title;
    b) Type or change the title for the audio; and
    c) Tap Save (or Done).
  4. To delete the audio file,
    a) Tap the three-dot menu (upper right);
    b) Tap Delete; and tap Delete again.
Exercises


C Tag an audio file to attach it to Memories, for a person in Family Tree.


Summary

  1. Tap the audio file, if it is not already open.
  2. Tap the person-plus icon (upper right).
  3. Select the name or ID you want from the list, or begin typing to find it. If the name or ID does not appear, tap Add New next to the entry you typed to add it to the list.
  4. Tap Done. The audio file is now available in the Memories area on FamilySearch for each person you tagged.
