As you fill in the gaps in your part of the tree, you develop a sense of connection with your ancestors and your heritage. If you would like to practice making changes on a test family tree that will not affect the data on FamilySearch, visit beta.familysearch.org. The data in that test tree is re-populated from FamilySearch each December.
Note : If you don't have any ancestors to add at this time, skip to Goal 8.
Important: FamilySearch uses a shared, community tree. Before you add people to the tree, make sure they are not already in the tree, to avoid causing duplicates.

If you do not know the new ancestor's ID, then:
If you have family tree information in other databases or websites, such as Ancestry or RootsMagic, you may be able to automatically copy that information into FamilySearch Family Tree without having to do manual data entry.
Adding a person who is not yet connected to you might make sense when you believe the person to be related to you, but records are not yet located to establish the relationship.
